A little over a month ago, I became the proud owner of a new sweatshirt (that is really more like a sweater), and I love it so much I wore it every day the first week of ownership! I’m actually wearing it now as I type this! I wore it to work, to the barn, to the gym, to Trader Joe’s–all the places! Somehow through Instagram, I found out about the Two Bits Equestrian product launch party over in Santa Monica. I had not been to that part of town in a while, and I knew Amy from Hunt Seat Paper Co., was going, so it would automatically be a good time. And from what I saw of Two Bits Equestrian on Instagram, I could tell it was really my style.

In case you haven’t heard of Two Bits Equestrian yet, it’s a burgeoning line of “tailored athleisure for the modern equestrian.” The founder and designer is Annie Heise, the Hollywood actress who’s also a horse girl. Annie had the concept for a line of ethically and sustainably-sourced clothing that looks and feels great from stable to street.

The colors are simple and neutral so they will blend well with pretty much anything you wear. The bomber jacket and V-necks don’t automatically scream “Barn Uniform!” which is really nice. I got to meet Annie at the launch, and she is very charming and personable. (Not sure why I didn’t think to get a picture with her! I think it might have been shopping over-stimulation and distraction due to the delectable party food–those mini tarts!)

It was a warm day for the party, and I got to hang out with Amy, Karina from the blog The Hunt, and my longtime friend and former roommate Heidi poolside in the backyard of the gorgeous home which was the launch venue. Karina and I both tried on the V-neck–hers was a lighter heather gray one with an oatmeal contrasting neckline. She looked fabulous in it.

Shopping in comfort. Notice I kept the V-Neck on and just handed over my credit card.

As the sun started to set, I got cold, so when I tried the V-neck on in size 2 (the sizing is a little different–this 2 is like a medium), I didn’t want to take it off. Annie’s sister (whose name now escapes me) processed my sale, and on my way out the door I saw another woman wearing the same black V-neck as me! It was Annie’s mom, and we connected on the point of both being Midwesterners. (Amy’s family lives in Minnesota and I’m from Illinois.)

Aside from having a classic, yet modern aesthetic, it’s comfy–almost like wearing pajamas, due to its large, looped terry interior. And the fit is very flattering! At this point I realize I should have bought one in the color Karina chose too, as I’m getting so much use out of it!

Love the Two Bits logo. And notice the V-neck in another color.

One quick thing I have to mention (in case my hubby ends up reading this blog post): The Two Bits V-Neck is a higher price point than what I would typically spend for such an item. However, I feel good paying a higher price knowing the people who manufacture the item are treated fairly (i.e., are not children in a foreign country working in a sweatshop), and it’s high quality.

I look at it like buying a nice pair of well-made, figure flattering jeans. The jeans that look good on me are not cheap. But I’d rather have one pair that fits fabulously than several that are just bland or unflattering. I can already tell my Two Bits V-Neck will be a staple in my wardrobe for many years to come.

This summer I’ll be away for about five weeks. I’m going to Chicago, Maryland and Germany, and my Two Bits Equestrian V-neck is definitely going with me!
