Do you follow equestrian fashionista Jennifer Sims on her @styledequestrian Instagram account? If you don’t, you really need to and if you do, you’ll probably enjoy a little behind-the-scenes peek at what it was like to meet her and interview her for Sidelines magazine. We met last November during the Las Vegas National Horse Show and I even got to say hi to her handsome gelding Rocket!
First off, Jennifer is extremely easy to talk to and interviewing her was like having a conversation with a horse crazy friend I’ve known for years. By that I mean the question and answer format flowed naturally even though I had kind of prepared a script of questions which I had emailed her in advance of meeting. We just talked horse.
Jennifer is every bit as svelte in real life as she appears on her Instagram account, and tall. And she really has quite an interesting story. For example, she used to DJ in clubs in Los Angeles (you’ll have to read the Sidelines article to learn her DJ name which was not even close to Styled Equestrian–see link for the article at the end of this post)! When she moved from the East Coast to California she brought her vinyl collection with her and through friends ended up DJing!
Another fun fact is that the actress Katherine Heigl took a riding lesson on Jennifer’s horse Rocket to prep for her upcoming movie Unforgettable. Jennifer was in a riding scene-she’s the stunt double for Katherine.
DJ/model/stunt rider–I mean that is a fun and impressive resume!
Jennifer was vegan for many years and she loves to cook. You might pick up on that if you follow her on Instagram. Once in a while she’ll post in stories some meals she’s prepping in the kitchen.
Yet another fun fact is that her mother-in-law is a horsewoman too. I don’t want to spoil the cute story about how her now mother-in-law responded when she found out her son’s then new girlfriend (Jennifer) rode.
So there you have it, a little behind the scenes look at what it was like to interview Jennifer Sims, one of the most popular Instagrammers in the equestrian world. Here’s the link to read the whole article Jennifer Sims: Equestrian Ambassador, Riding Double, and Fashionista.
Question: What popular horse people have you been able to talk horse with? If there was one person in the equestrian world you would like to interview, who would it be?
