3 More Reasons Everyone Needs a Robot Vacuum

A previous post titled 10 Reasons Every Woman Needs a Robot Vacuum  highlighted reasons why I think every woman must have this special robot vacuum friend.

“Need” is a strong word and I realize that–I was being a bit hyperbolic/dramatic. No one really needs a robot vacuum, but if one’s budget allows, it is a wonderful investment which can reduce the burden of one regular household chore.

I realize now I left men out of the title of my treatise on this amazing house-cleaning device. I have some male followers and I believe you are every bit as worthy to have your very own personal robot as my female friends. In fact, based on how very few men I know actually clean their homes regularly, men might warrant/need a Roomba more than their female counterparts!

And now that we have fully integrated our iRobot device into our family, I have three more observations on why both men and women will benefit by having such a vacuum.

1. YOUR HOUSE IS DIRTIER THAN YOU THINK!
   I cannot believe the dirt, fuzz, and who knows what else is being picked up! Every time Roomba goes to work, even in a room without a rug, it finishes the job and has a gray icky wad of mystery fluff inside which needs to be tossed in the garbage. By the way, if you compost, you can mix the robot vacuum gunk in with your banana peels and coffee grounds! Help the environment and keep your garden happy.

2. DRESS IT UP=FUN!
   As pictured in the video, robots can be festive! Some people have concrete geese or other such outdoor figurines that they dress up for the holidays. Pets also tend to have to wear costumes this time of year. Decorating your Roomba is cheaper and will not cause it to have emotional trauma (unlike your poor dog that you dressed up like a cheerleader or Harry Potter for Halloween).

3. DOG TRAINING TOOL
   For those of you with skittish dogs (maybe even horses?), a robot vacuum can be a great tool to train your beast to not be so overly reactive. Missie my Doberman had a phobia of vacuums when I got her at age 4 months. She would bark and carry on like it was going to eat her. (This was actually great for a few days when we first had her outside while we were at work. I was worried she’d breach the temporary, flimsy plastic fencing we set up to separate her from the section of yard with our pool it. I put our Dyson as a outside as a kind of sentry so that she wouldn’t try to cross over to the pool section. Now she knows how to swim and so we’re all good–flimsy fencing gone, vacuum in the house).

Missie was highly suspicious of the Roomba, but she’s starting to chill out. She is in training for her AKC Canine Good Citizen test. One of the aspects of the test is to have your dog remain calm when presented with some loud or otherwise scary distraction. You can tell from the video she’s not a huge fan, but it’s not terrifying her anymore.
