On Thursday of this week I will ride the cross country course in Lexington at the Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event. At a walk. In a Western saddle. With the course designer and a past Olympian.

I’m not worthy.

I might have squealed when the envelope came in the mail containing this gem.

The opportunity to ride at Rolex Kentucky has come about thanks to my relationship with Sidelines magazine. I will be writing a future California Hoofbeats column featuring the famous cross country course in Lexington. I intend to blog, Tweet and Instagram from Rolex Kentucky, so please feel free to follow along. 🙂

What’s happening is a small group of equestrian media folk get to preview the four mile course and hear the inside scoop on the challenges of each jump. Leslie Law the Three-Day Eventing gold medalist from the 2004 Olympics will be the host of the ride, and course designer Derek Di Grazia will join us at key fences to share his insights. It’s a privilege I still can’t wrap my mind around.

The dressage phase begins Thursday and Friday of this week followed by cross country on Saturday and then show jumping on Sunday. If there some of you in blogland are going this weekend too, we should connect!

But Wait, There’s More!

As if that weren’t cool enough, New Vocations is hosting an event called Thoroughbreds for All which I will also attend. The headliners for this event are eventer Laine Ashker, dressage rider/trainer Reese Koffler-Stanfield and reining guru Dan James. All three will share their experiences working with Thoroughbreds. And I believe there will be demonstrations.

And possibly the coolest part is that my mom is going to go too!

Your Turn: If you’ve been to Rolex before, give me a shoutout with tips or your favorite part. And if you haven’t been to Rolex, is it on your bucket list or is there some other type of competition that you dream of seeing?

To get Rolex updates from a fan point of view, follow me on Instagram and Twitter. In addition, you can like the Saddle Seeks Horse Facebook page and stay in the loop that way too.
